31 children rescued from sex trafficking in Thailand
Multiple operations over the course of a single month led to the rescue of 31 children.
In addition to the children, six 18 and 19-year-old girls were also rescued from sexual exploitation. Though still plagued by some of the highest child trafficking in the world, the Thai government has worked hard to fight the problem, earning them an improved standing on the U.S. Department of State’s Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report last year. Traffickers had been sexually exploiting the victims, including a few boys and young men, in a tourist area of the Philippines. Aside from providing an in-depth investigation, our agents helped law enforcement by supplying undercover work, surveillance, victim interviews, and operational manpower.
The survivors have all been returned home, and the trafficker was arrested.
