Youth Leading the Charge and Fighting for Freedom

The rising generation is surrounded by an array of influencers. Influencers who subtly slither their way onto their phone screens or peers at school at the lunch table. But perhaps the most underrated and seldomly utilized influencer, is the church. The Youth at La Iglesia de Hoy of Elizabeth, New Jersey, understood the power of taking words and turning them into actions. Being the hands and feet of Jesus, in the truest form, must go deeper than simply attending church on a Sunday morning. Being the hands and of feet of Jesus, pursuing his heart and taking a stand, results in a reverberation of actions that have a ripple effect and run on for miles and miles.
Believing someone’s voice matters is the vital first step in taking responsibility to speak for those who are voiceless. After they learned about Destiny Rescue and the opportunity of hosting their own Rescue Sunday, The Youth at La Iglesia de Hoy, found their voice and shouted the worth of those trapped in modern slavery. They held two, back to back, Rescue Sundays during their main services.
The Youth’s efforts to bring light into the darkness began long before that first Sunday morning. Youth leader, Jackelyn Ramos told us, “Prior to the Sundays, we handed out flyers in our weekly adult small groups so that everyone was aware to come to church with extra cash. In order to give a visual experience of what the Mission was, we created replica of a jail cell and the girls in the Youth each gave statistics on child and women trafficking.” Their dedication to bring awareness and truth to their congregation did not go unnoticed.
The Youth prayed together and then anxiously waited after service to see what the reaction would be. Jackelyn went on to say, “The response was overwhelming. We sold a great amount of merchandise [Destiny Rescue Jewelry]. I even had a brave woman tell me she was a victim of sex trafficking and she was in awe to see that awareness was being brought to light.” The power of the Church being the Church is unprecedented. God uses willing hearts to move mountains. Thank you to The Youth at La Iglesia de Hoy, for joining the fight!
Rescue Sunday is an opportunity for the Church to engage in the fight against child trafficking and the victory the Gospel has over darkness. Anyone can utilize a normal Sunday morning to encourage and empower the Church to defend the weak and vulnerable. Your church can help rescue, restore and disciple children who have been trafficked.
