T.J. Leaf, Professional Basketball Player, Joins the Destiny Rescue Team
As our rescues increase and our organization grows we are proud to partner with those willing to help our voice reach even farther. What began with a high schooler with a passion for justice is now a influential partnership that will help bring freedom to many more children.
T.J. Leaf vividly recalls his first introduction to Destiny Rescue at a school assembly during high school. Moved by our work to rescue children around the world, T.J. decided to act by leading a fundraiser to help support our mission. Now, as a athlete with an even greater platform to effect change in the world, he wants to do more.
T.J, now in his second year of playing basketball professionally, joins the Destiny Rescue family as our first official ambassador. Partnerships with high-character, influential people like T.J. will lead to the rescue and restoration of countless children in the future.
“I am proud to be an ambassador for Destiny Rescue and join the fight against child sex trafficking. I am excited to use my influence to help create awareness about this very serious issue and play my part in ending child sexual exploitation.” Leaf said.
“We are excited to have T.J. on our team and in this fight.” said Cory Nickols, Destiny Rescue’s Director of Strategic Partnerships. “I first met T.J. when he was in high school. He was passionate about wanting to get involved and that passion led him to leading the fundraiser at this school that set a child free. Now, as a professional athlete, he wants to use his influence to help rescue more children from sexual slavery and restore their lives so that they, like he, can chase their dreams. It is really special to see a young man like T.J. step up in this way. We believe that he can, and will, inspire people of all ages to say yes to making a difference for these kids. And when he does, countless children will be set free.”
T.J. was born in Tel Aviv, Israel and raised in Southern California by parents Brad & Karen Leaf. He grew up in a loving, close-knit & faith-based environment with his four siblings. He spent one year playing college basketball prior to turning professional. In addition to his work on the basketball court, T.J. has also demonstrated a heart for giving back to those in need.
T.J. has served both in his church communities in California and Indiana and currently serves as a mentor to several teens from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana.
We were honored when T.J. participated in the Red Shoe campaign in January. He wrote “Destiny Rescue” on a pair of his red basketball shoes and wore them on the court. His Instagram post, featuring his new kicks was well received and introduced his followers to our organization.
We are excited to have T.J. on our team and look forward to rescuing more children with his support.
