New Territory: The Americas – The Dominican Republic
We are starting a new chapter of our Destiny Rescue story – a story that is far from complete. There are many exciting chapters still to be written, and we are about to put pen to paper and write the one titled: New Territory: The Americas.
As we expand our fight to end child sexual slavery, we have set our sights on the Dominican Republic. Our goal is to have boots on the ground in our first project country in the Americas in August 2015. Being in the Dominican will also help to open doors for further projects in the region.
Haiti and the Dominican Republic share the island of Hispaniola. The destruction from the 2010 earthquake in Haiti has affected all those who live on the island. Many children in Haiti are vulnerable to being trafficked into the Dominican Republic. Children of the Dominican Republic are also vulnerable to being trafficked within its borders, costal regions are very often the destination. Street children, runaways or expelled restavék (unpaid domestic child servants) are all at very high risk.1
This is why we have chosen to begin work in the Dominican Republic. Destiny Rescue is answering the call and stepping up to fill a very real and vital need. As we extend our reach to the children of the Dominican Republic we will be begin rescue and aftercare programs. We want to do our best to help each and every child that has been trafficked or exploited to experience a dramatic plot twist. They deserve to be able to live out a new story where they go to bed safe every night. We want to unlock a future where their unique hopes and dreams are made not just possible, but a reality.
Help us put the pen to paper. You can be a part of helping the children in the Dominican Republic turn the page to a pivotal point in their story, a new chapter that makes a new beginning.
