Laos Rescue Gains Momentum
We recently sent two of our rescue agents from Thailand to Laos to train new agents and help strengthen relationships with local authorities there.
One of the local Destiny Rescue agents stationed in Laos received a tip-off about young kids hanging around a local bar known for prostitution. The tip-off alone was encouraging, as it shows great confidence in Destiny Rescue’s ability to make a difference in Laos. After conducting a basic investigation to determine their circumstances, our agent learned that a pimp had sent the children there to wait for customers to “rent them”.
Outraged by this injustice our team sprung into action. Our rescue agents headed out the following night to intercept the girls before customers had the chance to purchase them. After talking to the girls for a few minutes the agents found out just how young these two children were: 12 and 15 years old.
Five months of fear. Five months of pain. Five months of being forced to do things children shouldn’t have any knowledge of.
Unwilling to let these kids suffer again at the hands of lonely, perverted men for another moment, our agents offered them an opportunity to start a new life that very night. The girls didn’t need to be asked a second time and jumped at the chance to escape. Within 30 minutes our team and these young girls were on their way to a safe house, leaving behind their old life, taking only the clothes on their backs.
The following morning our rescue agents visited the safe house where the young girls were now staying. They were being well looked after by our staff and were quickly making new friends. Our rescue agents were greeted with smiles and laughs from these two precious girls who were so grateful for the opportunity for a fresh start.
Initial interviews revealed that three other girls, two 13-year-olds and one 16-year-old, were also working under the controlling hand of the same pimp. Three teams mobilised that night and headed out to find the girls. Within two hours all three had been located and their identities verified. After making the offer for them to join their two friends, the three nervous young girls agreed to meet the following morning, telling the pimp that they were meeting clients.
But something these kids know all too well is that no matter how bad things are they can always get worse. It was more than understandable that these three girls needed a night to think about it.
The morning brought renewed hope. All three girls decided to trust our agents and accepted the offer of freedom. That morning all five children were living safely in our rescue home. The following day was a precious sight: young girls playing and having fun with their new friends.
It was nearly inconceivable that just two nights before these girls were being abused and sold and now they were able to be children again, to play, laugh, and simply be happy.
