By now everyone will have set their personal targets of how much they want to raise and how long they are going to Make A Stand, so it's time to GET SPONSORED!! You can approach friends, family, neighbours, work colleagues, classmates or anyone you feel comfortable asking to support you.

The Process

  • Your team leader will supply you with Make A Stand ‘Receipt Books’ and ‘Credit Card Donation Slips.’ You’ll also be required to sign a 'Promise Sheet'.
  • Offer people the chance to sponsor you at an hourly rate or give a donation.
  • End your appeal with a challenge for them to sponsor you, telling them about the needs of the children and your desire to take action and Make A Stand.
  • Make sure you inform any sponsors/donors of the date of the event.
  • When someone decides to sponsor you, write their name and the amount they wish to give in your receipt book and set a date for you to return with your ‘Proof of Participation’ to collect the money and give them the receipt.
  • A receipt should be given immediately to any people donating upfront.
  • Personal sponsorship/donations can be given online by credit card. Give the sponsor/donor a ‘Credit Card Donation Slip’ with your username on it and direct them to the ‘Donate’ page on the website. A receipt will be sent directly to the donor and an email will be sent to your team leader to add this to your tally.
  • Give all funds raised to your team leader as collected, so money can be monitored and deposited on a regular basis (team leader to refer to 'Donate' page for bank details).

Suggestion - What To Say?

To assist you in getting sponsored, it is important that the people you approach are aware about what you are doing and why you are doing it, before you invite them to support you. Here’s a guide of what you might say to help make it easier to approach people.

"Hi [sponsor name]. I’m making a stand against (poverty/child prostitution*).

On the (25/26th) July, I’ll be standing for 10 hours to raise money to help (break the poverty cycle for children/prevent and rescue children from prostitution) in Thailand, Cambodia and Mozambique.

I have a goal of raising $xx per hour to reach a total of $xx, which will go towards (providing food and education for children and small business loans for families/rescuing and caring for the needs of girls sold into prostitution).

Could you please help me to reach this goal by sponsoring me ($xx) an hour/donating ($xx)?**

*For those who are uncomfortable with the term ‘prostitution’ you may wish to substitute it with 'child trafficking' or 'child abuse.'

**Challenge the person by suggesting an amount that you believe they would be able to afford.
