Talk to your friends, work colleagues or anyone who will listen, and inspire them to join you as you Make A Stand. Gather as large a team as you can, the bigger the team, the more funds will be raised and a greater awareness of the cause will be achieved.

There are plenty of ways you can inspire people to Make A Stand with you

  • Tell all your friends that you are leading a team and ask them to join.
  • Go around your school or workplace and tell everyone you see.
  • Do a presentation at your sports club, church or school assembly.
  • Ask your boss to make it a work event.
  • Use the resources in the Make A Stand pack to tell stories of what life is like for kids in third world and developing nations, and the enormous difference that has been made when others have helped.
  • Make sure that people know exactly what Make A Stand is about, who it is for and where the money will go – that way they can participate confidently and recruit others into your team.

Group Challenge and Targets

Once your team has been formed and before sponsorship seeking can commence, it is important that the team challenge, and team and individual targets are set. This will keep your team motivated to reach their goals and raise as much awareness and funds as possible.

The group challenge is simply, how long will you Make A Stand for and where?

For example

  • Year 1 - Stand for 1 class period.
  • Years 2 & 3 -Stand for 2 class periods.
  • Years 4 & 5 - Stand for 3 class periods.
  • Year 6 & 7 - Stand for 4 class periods.
  • Open age - Stand for 10 hours.
  • How & Where – Workplace, home, individually or as a group, quiet place or in public, play a game to pass the time, etc. (extra ideas on step 4. Make A Stand)

*Please ensure that the rules are read before setting up your challenge (refer step 4. Make A Stand) and consider any health and safety issues.

Team and individual targets must then be set, as everyone will get a lot more satisfaction from the event, if they feel they have raised enough money to make a real difference. Set individual targets by looking at the 'About' page, or by aiming to raise a minimum average donation from your receipt book.

For example

Number of donations

Average donation

Total raised

25

$10

$250

25

$15

$375

25

$20

$500

50

$20

$1000

The group target is then the combination of the individual team member's targets....it's that simple! You may even want to round it up to the nearest 100 or 1000 to give your team members more of a challenge.

Continued Team Inspiration

It is important to that your team remains inspired throughout the entire Make A Stand process. This can be done by

  • Talking about the event whenever you get the chance.
  • Congratulating members on the sponsors they've signed up and encourage them to aim for more. Also, share hints and tips that everyone has learnt in order to gain more sponsors.
  • Keep reminding people of what will be achieved with the money and the awareness being created. Remember, people give because you meet needs, not because you have one.
  • Talk about the real stories and lives that have already been changed.
  • If you are part of a club, work place, school or church, arrange to have your group recognised in a public meeting so that everyone knows they are Making A Stand.
